Introduction
International Women's day is the worldwide celebration of cultural, political and economic achievements. It is celebrated on March 8. The past few years saw various movements for women's rights, equality, and justice. #METoo and #TimesUP Campaigns were held to address the issues on sexual harassment, femicide, and equal pay.  This year women’s day theme is #TimesISNow which highlights metropolitan and countryside activist transforming women’s lives


History
Women’s day was first noticed on February 28, 1909, in New York. At 1910 International Women’s Conference March 8 was decided to be the official date for celebrating women's day. March 8 also became a national holiday in Soviet Union (Russia). The day began to be celebrated with huge excitement and happiness until it was adopted by United Nations in 1975.

The theme of the day
The theme of the day #TimeIsNow: Rural and Urban activities transforming women’s lives.  The theme highlights the attention of rural women who consists only quarter of the worldwide population.

Large gatherings, conferences, awards, festivals and exhibition, online digital gatherings are observed globally to mark International Women's day
